A Swim

Aug 22 A Swim by Jennica in France

“Think’n of going swimming?” he asked.

“Maybe,” I responded.

“Here or there?” he clarified.

“I was thinking here.”

“You want to swim in a hotel pool when the Mediterranean is four blocks away?!”

“Maybe.”

I thought of crowds and pebbley beaches with no sand and the vastness of the water and calculated how much I disliked chlorine.

“How about we go for a drive?” he suggested.

“Okay.”

We drove from Nice to San Tropez and stopped in Cannes for a swim on a sandy beach – about a kilometre from the centre where they hold the film festival. The salty water was nasty when it got in the mouth, but otherwise it was perfect. The water is so warm and calm and clear. We swam out to one of the platforms and enjoyed the sunshine. If you’ve ever seen Hitchcock’s To Catch a Thief starring Cary Grant and Grace Kelly, you could picture us swimming on the French Riviera like they did.
