Jennica & Matthew Geddert's Ramblings

Air Canada Hong Kong Limbo

Mar 25 Air Canada Hong Kong Limbo by Jennica in Hong Kong

When we purchased our tickets we were careful to verify that we could change the dates. A mere $50 fee was all we would require to go home, we were told. Well, between the foreign culture and the reality of "subject to availability," we've been stuck in Hong Kong for days, making our daily trek to the airport only be told different tales by each employee we encounter. It seems our price class is too low for them to bother to help us get out on standby. Our calling card won't call 1-800 numbers so we could only get in touch with Air Canada in Canada after a friendly passenger gave us the direct number on our second attempt to get out. Even the Canadian employees are unable to help us because of those lovely "restrictions." Every day we're in line three hours early for the flight to Vancouver and every day we end up in the internet coffee shop booking a new (expensive) hotel for the night. On our fourth airport attempt, while we were waiting for them to tell us there was no room again, Matthew got through on the phone to a guy who helped us upgrade our tickets for a pretty penny and get us out on attempt five. We were seriously considering buying new return tickets (still on the same sale as we purchased our tickets) and coming on an airmile run later. We just want to go home.
