Jennica & Matthew Geddert's Ramblings

Beautiful, Gorgeous, Wish You Were Here

For the most part we tossed the guidebook to the bottom of our luggage and just soaked it in as it came. Strolling along the Seine, I was constantly recognizing places from so many movies: An American In Paris, Gigi, French Kiss, Sabrina, etc…

On our first night, we ambled along from the Eiffel Tower to the Notre Dame. We ate crepes with ham and cheese from a street vender that were simply delicious. On our days following, we toured the Louve and made a day trip to Versailles where we toured Marie Antionette’s apartments and rented a small boat for an hour to row around on the huge lake. We also took an elevator to the very top of the Eiffel Tower. I had butterflies in my stomach every time Matthew held out the camera to take a picture. From up there, however, we did discover that Paris has a Lady Liberty like New York, only smaller – apparently when France gave New York the original, America sent a copy back as a thank-you.

One thing we found pretty cool in our ramblings was that the mayor of Paris arranged for an artificial beach – complete with deck chairs, umbrellas and sand on the banks of the Seine for the locals to “go on holiday” without actually going anywhere. Oddly enough, it worked well.
