Smoke and Bugs
Mar 12 Smoke and Bugs
We were warned abut pollution in northern Thailand at this time of year due primarily to burning fields. Although I don’t doubt that the North is beautiful hilly countryside, our visit in Chiang Mai and trips around there sure showed how humans are messing up the air. What we could see, i.e. anything within 400 meters, looked nice enough, but then again, tourist areas tend to be that way.
The highlight of Chiang Mai was an entomologist’s private museum. The writing on the wall encouraged you to be at one with nature, to love those little bugs that bite you. It appears entomologists have their little idiosyncrasies.
We saw a complete 422 piece collection of all the mosquito species in Thailand and some of the coolest, weirdest, scariest looking bugs ever. Oddly enough they were beautiful. If you have a chance to see something similar, I would highly recommend you give it a try.
