Jennica & Matthew Geddert's Ramblings
Society of Biblical Literature
Nov 20 Society of Biblical Literature
The Society of Biblical Literature had its annual meeting in San Diego and I went for the first time. I had heard of it from my professors back at Concord College and I remember wishing I could go to such an amazing event. Now you must understand that I LOVE conferences. I got hooked on church congregational meetings when I was sixteen, I attend denominational conferences every chance I get, and if you mention any kind of event in which reports will be given and ideas will be shared about how to understand the Bible or how the followers of God are living the teachings of the Bible... well, I'm in. Now picture all the "scribes" in the US, Canada, and Britain (and a few from other places) gathering to talk about what the Bible means. Oh yeah, you guessed it - it's the ultimate Bible geek reunion. Here's one of the gatherings of Mennonites:
I reconnected with almost every professor who inspired me to follow in their footsteps and I went for coffee with old classmates who, like me, are "joining the guild."
I listened to the latest and greatest ideas about how to interpret the Bible. I saw the Dead Sea Scrolls without traveling to Israel. I went shopping at an enormous book fair where new books were 50% off.
It was so much fun.
