The Loch Ness Myth Is Dead

Jul 27 The Loch Ness Myth Is Dead by Matthew in United Kingdom

As a kid I remember visiting the Loch Ness museum and seeing all manner of odd submariner instruments used to capture images of the mythical beast of this, the most famous Loch. There were garage-built submersibles that I could imagine building and all other matter of a fanatic’s tools. I was young. I knew it was a myth but vividly remember the ambition these crazies had.

That museum is gone, or at least we couldn’t find it. It has been replaced by a biologist’s museum that clearly and convincingly explains how the myth came to be and why it cannot be true. It does two things wrong. It slowly kills off interest in the Loch thus hurting its own business and tries desparately to explain the unexplicable: human’s fascination and obsessiveness with myth and legend. Facts don’t need help, but our collective imagination does.
