Jennica & Matthew Geddert's Ramblings

Travelling to Deutchhof

Jul 12 Travelling to Deutchhof by Jennica in Germany

On Sunday afternoon, Matthew and I came by Elm Creek. We thought about stopping by, but Mom and Dad are on their bike trip. Not to mention dropping in would not have been a good idea since we were 10 km in the air at the time. To my delight, the direct flight between Las Vegas and Frankfurt goes directly above Elm Creek, MB, Canada. I had been immersed in a book when Matthew commented, “We must be in Canada by now.” I glanced out the window and there it was – Elm Creek in all it´s glory: the school, the church, the elevator, the curve in the highway, the junction between the #2 and #13 highways, and the golf course. It was all welcoming me home! As I looked down, I had “the moment.” I truly realized that I was no longer a legal alien but full Canadian again.

Our flight was otherwise uneventful. How eventful could it be with the movies “Ice Age 2” and “Cheaper By the Dozen 2” to watch? We arrived in Frankfurt and Willi, Matthew´s uncle, picked us up and drove us to Deutchhof. We´ve been recovering from jetlag and stuffing ourselves on the amazing concoctions of Oma and Tante Selma. Matthew has also been working industriously at the blog so it may go up later today.

I´ve been stretching my memory to my Jr. High German lessons and have been able to understand and make myself understood more than I expected. Perhaps all that New Testament Greek I´ve been studying has put me in touch with some basic meanings. In any case, I´m much better at German than the last time I was here.
