Visiting in Calgary
Oct 1 Visiting in Calgary
We left Frankfurt five hours later than expected. That was a bummer for about twenty minutes as we frantically called Canada, trying to catch everyone before they left for work. Twenty minutes into the wait, however, we were ushered into an airport lounge. We consumed a sumptuous free dinner and free drinks. When we finished the chicken and fish, they brought out ice cream. When we finished that, delicious German cakes were set before us. As we were setting up for take-off, the pilot informed us that the reason for the delay was that they had to replace the windshield of the plane. That’s a good reason! I’ll ride in a car with a cracked windshield, but images of pilots fighting 500 mph winds is enough to switch one’s mood from, “Get going already!” to “Take all the time you need.” Even though we didn’t get a free flight or anything, I think that was the best flight delay ever.
When we finally arrived, we met my mom, sister and brother-in-law. We spent a lovely week with them, getting over jet-lag and shopping for clothing more suited to Canadian fall and winter than what we brought.
